Project Overview
Ortu Gable Hall School is a coeducational secondary school academy and sixth form located in Corringham, Stanford-le-Hope, Essex. Carter Group were engaged to become the Principal Contractor and undertake the Electrical Re-Wire and associated works for Phase 2. The planning and structure was key to the success of this project with minimal disruption to the day to day operations of the school. Our team, comprised of Project Manager, Site Supervisor and installation teams across various trades are all Enhanced DBS cleared, regularly reviewed and monitored in compliance with ISO quality management systems.

Our Project Management team specialize in the design and management of large site projects and Gable Hall School was an excellent challenge for our Project Management to design, install, test and commissioning systems achieving ultimate client satisfaction with minimal disruption. Coordinating and communicating with trades, providing site inductions, ongoing safety inspections, our full scope of works included:
Main LV Switchboard
To design and install a new Form 4 Type 2 Main LV Switchboard to provide sufficient capacity for the whole school, including Phase 1 and Phase 2 areas, of which incorporated new energy metres for outgoing circuits.

Distribution Boards and sub-main cabling
To design and install new sub-mains cabling along with new distribution boards for Phase 2.
Electrical re-wire
Design and install a new galvanised steel cable trunking, tray and conduit containment
system using single core LSF wiring throughout. A new small power system was designed and installed including sockets, fused spurs and isolators to all electrical equipment within the project areas.
LED Lighting
To design and install a new LED lighting system throughout. New absence detection lighting controls were installed within all classrooms and offices, with luminaires adjacent to interactive whiteboards /display screens. New presence detection lighting controls were installed within all circulation areas, WC’s, stores and back-of-house areas. A new exterior LED lighting system was designed and installed using both photocell and timeclock/override controls.
Emergency Lighting
To design and Install a new non-maintained emergency lighting system throughout the school to comply with the requirements of BS5266-1:2016 utilising separate dedicated non-maintained LED emergency luminaires throughout.
Building Services
Installation of suspended ceilings throughout all areas of the school to conceal the new containment system and to provide a flush lighting installation.
